Obstetrician vs midwife

One of the first steps in your pregnancy is deciding on whether an Obstetrician or a Midwife is the right person to care for you during pregnancy and to deliver your baby.

If you have a high risk pregnancy or will need a scheduled c-section you are probably best going to an OB. As surgeons, obstetricians are able to perform cesarian sections and as medical doctors, obstetricians have an understanding of many of the medical conditions that can complicate pregnancy.

Midwives on the other hand, are also very skilled in pregnancy care and delivery, but they take a more personal and non-interventional approach. Many women with low risk pregnancies find the midwifery experience more satisfying.

The good news is that at Delaware Valley OBGYN, the choice is yours, OB or midwife. We offer both.
